"We all live with the objective of being happy; our lives are all different and yet the same"
You have one life. Ask yourself, "How do I want to spend it?"
Apologising, questioning, hating yourself, dieting, focusing on people who don't see your true value?
No, that's not the way to live a productive, fulfilling, happy life. If you find yourself repeating the same destructive patterns over and over again, I find it helpful to stop, take a step back, and make a list. I find that lists can be incredibly helpful tools that allow you to centre your needs and wants. In this instance, the things that make you happy.
When you've defined what happiness is to you, it is much easier to seek out and enjoy when it comes to you. Everyone's happiness looks different. It is important to notice the things that bring you joy.
You have this one life. And you have all the moments in the world to make choices that bring you closer to your happy places.
Below is my list of 10 things that make me happy. What are yours?
1) The beach.
Living on the beach is one of my greatest joys. I love the smells of the ocean air, so crisp and fresh. In the mornings, when everything is quiet, I can hear the waves rolling in. Not to mention, the endless sunshine can always life my mood. When I'm walking on the beach, I feel free.
2) My family.
My beautiful family now lives close by, which brings a huge smile to my face. I love that we can drop in on each other now without making huge travel plans.
3) My granddaughters playing.
Is there a more simple joy in life than a child's laughter? I love to see my granddaughters enjoying life, taking chances, and learning.
4) The work I do.
I spent many years working in the corporate world. While it was stable and respectable, it didn't make me happy. Now I get to work with and mentor beautiful souls and see them blossom into their truest selves. I feel a deep sense of delight watching my clients succeed in their dreams.
5) I am free.
I can choose to do what I want when I want. The only restrictions I have, I have chosen for myself.
6) Delicious food.
Eating is a simple pleasure in life, but one I refuse to overlook. Beautiful, fresh, abundant food not only makes my taste buds sing, but it makes me happy.
7) Doing nothing.
We live in a capitalistic world where your value is measured by your work. Doing nothing is incredibly indulgent and satisfying. It is a luxury and one that I do not take for granted.
Dancing is so freeing! Anytime I hear a good beat, I can't help myself. I get into the groove. Dancing is one of those things that is so great because it doesn't require anything except a little bit of music.
9) Helping others.
You probably know that warm, fuzzy feeling you get when you do a nice thing for someone else.
I am addicted to that feeling!. I search it out because it makes me happy to make others happy.
I have been incredibly fortunate to be able to experience other cultures first hand. While this goes hand in hand with #6, I especially love to indulge in the local cuisine. Not only does it make me feel like I'm experiencing the culture, but I also get to eat some tasty meals.
That wraps up my list of 10 things that make me happy. What are your 10 things? I would love to know.
