As woman, many of us have learned to suppress our true identities. Our wants, our needs, and our desires are pushed aside so that we can tend to others’ wants, needs, and desires. We were taught to be selfless. We were raised to be mothers, carers, and givers before being individuals with our own needs.
I ask – how many of you were told to play it safe?
This attitude is everywhere. I know it was in my household growing up.
My parents are European, which means they approached parenting a certain way. I was taught to be seen and not heard. I was taught to make myself smaller, to be less needy, to become less than. I was made to feel guilty for no reason.
It did not occur to me then that I could rebel. It did not occur to me that I could be true to my nature. Fortunately, now times have changed and women are becoming more confident and aware.
I have found as the years have passed that it becomes easier to know your true value. Another important lesson is to learn to value your intuition – that little voice in the back of your head that whispers to you is powerful.
You are powerful.
You are more than what you do for others.
It is time to prove it to yourself. Stop looking at yourself through the distorted mirror of others’ perceptions of you. Look at yourself through your own eyes. What do you see?
You are a beautiful, wild woman. You are unique, smart, and driven.
If you read this and you roll your eyes, know that for some people, it takes time. The truth can be a slow unfurling of petals to reach enlightenment or it can happen all in an instant. Carry these words with you as you go and one day the wild woman inside you will awake.
It is time to step into your power. Own your power.
The benefits of embracing your inner wild woman.
Embracing your true nature comes with a multitude of benefits. Accepting your inner wild woman and becoming the true person you were meant to be will heal you.
You will be able to break away from old scars that have itched for too long. You will be able to accept the past and move away from it. Your inner wild woman isn’t defined by your past so you won’t be either.
It will kick start your life. If you feel like you’re in a rut, becoming a wild woman will give you the permission and freedom to do what you want. Run through the rain barefoot! Make a fabulous meal of food that you love (even if your family doesn’t). Take that class or quit that job you hate.
You will find that going with your intuition and that inner voice will facilitate change as well. Things you tolerated before will now feel impossible. You will move on and grow and encounter new and wonderful things.
Most importantly, you will be able to authentically express yourself. If you’re wearing a mask of what you think other people want you to be, you won’t be showing your true self to those around you. Trust me – your true self is flowing with abundance. It’s time to blossom and take up your full space in this world.
When you let her call the shots, you might truly be amazed what will happen. Doors will open. Opportunities will present themselves. When you’ve embraced your true desires, you will feel it in your bones what opportunities that make you enthusiastically want to say, “Yes!” and which ones drain your mental and emotional energy instead of increasing it.
As Coco Chanel said, “The most courageous act is still to think for yourself. Aloud.” Embrace yourself, embrace your wild woman, and think for yourself.
